Twibbons!

Last night, we fashioned together a simple “twibbon” for Turbo Kick. (Paula is a certified Turbo Kick instructor). Twibbon.com is a site that helps you show support for causes, sports teams, etc. Pick a graphic, and Twibbon.com will log in to Twitter (with your permission) and change your avatar! Very quick and easy! It is also very easy to create your own – they recommend using Pixlr.com, an online image editing program, but any image manipulation software will work. Pixlr is completely online, no software to download!

Once you create your own Twibbon, you can track metrics via the website. What a great way to build your brand! Anywhere or website that you use that pulls your Twitter avatar, Twitpic, for example, will show your Twibbon! They provide trending information too, so you can track info on your Twibbon, or others you might want to join.

Two issues:

If you have a decent sized pic for your avatar, Twibbon.com resizes it to 73×73 to fit the Twibbon. Not a big deal, but if you use your graphic to market or show info, know that it will get smaller! It will look the same on your Twitter page, but if it is clicked on, will show only the 73 px version.

If you have Twitter setup with your phone, following someone through the Twibbon.com interface may turn on SMS (phone) updates. It did for about half of the follows I made last night, but not all! Weird!

Turbo Kick is an awesome exercise program, designed by Powder Blue Productions. Learn more about it here. If you’re in San Antonio, join us for a class!

Some steps to help you develop your presence on Twitter:

Have a plan! Why are you using Twitter? What do you hope to accomplish?

Seek – Who are you following? Why? Nothing wrong with following your friends, in most cases most are also coworkers or you’re related by industry. Find those that you can learn from, also.

Listen – And learn!

Give – Definitely have good information ready to send out. Don’t spam! But share information that is useful to those listening. The term “subject matter expert” comes up here, for good reason.

Develop – Develop a rapport – talk with your customers, your followers, etc. Build a relationship with them.

Tools – There are many tools that will help you stay organized:

Seesmic Desktop – my favorite!

Tweetdeck

Mobile! You can tweet from your phone. You have to set your number up with your account, but it’s very easy.

URL shorteners – if you communicate your blog posts or other links, you’ll need these. Most Desktop Twitter apps have URL shortening capability. Try bit.ly or TinyURL.

There is an immense wealth of knowledge in the Twitterverse, about the Twitterverse! Take the time to learn the ropes (which differ depending on your business/approach) and you can successfully create awareness about your brand!
